The WordCairn app
- Your manuscript stays put. WordCairn reads your chapter files to count words. It never changes them and never sends their contents anywhere.
- No telemetry. There are no analytics, crash reporters, accounts or advertising. The app doesn't "phone home" and doesn't check for updates by itself.
- It listens only to your own computer. The window talks to a small server running on
127.0.0.1, which accepts requests only from WordCairn itself. - The word of the day is built in. The words and definitions ship inside the app, so nothing is downloaded. Hearing a word spoken uses your Mac's own voice.
- Feedback is your choice. The Feedback page builds an email in your own mail app. Nothing is sent until you press send in that app.
What WordCairn saves on your Mac
- Next to your manuscript: small hidden files such as
.wordcairn_history.json(snapshots),.wordcairn_challenge.json, and files for activity, sprints, progress and files you chose to leave out. Any report or export you save goes there too. - In your user Library: your settings (targets, theme, recent folders) in
~/Library/Application Support/WordCairn/. - Delete those files whenever you like. Chapter files are never touched, and anything WordCairn deletes from a manuscript folder is first copied to a
.bakfile next to it.
If you email us
If you send feedback or write to support@gnuware.net, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to answer you and to fix problems, and we don't sell or share it. Feedback sent from the app goes to the project's issue tracker, where it is handled as a support request. Ask us to delete a message and we will.
This website
This site is static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and operation.
Buying and downloading
Downloads and purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the seller of record. It collects the email address, payment details and billing information needed to complete an order, handles sales tax, and sends your receipt and download link. GNUware.net receives your name, email address and order details, and never sees your card number. Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy governs what it collects.
Children
WordCairn isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.
